TROMBONE WORKSHOP AT ADAMS ITTERVOORT
On 12 September 2026, the New Trombone Collective will be present at Adams Ittervoort for a special trombone workshop.
Nine trombones. One sound. No limits.
The New Trombone Collective brings together nine of the Netherlands’ leading trombonists in a unique ensemble built around one instrument, nine individual voices and an uncompromising passion for musical innovation.
The trombone is powerful, versatile and unpredictable. In the hands of the NTC, nine trombones can sound intimate and fragile one moment, overwhelming and orchestral the next. Classical repertoire, jazz, contemporary music, improvisation and new compositions come together in programmes where anything can happen.
The collective grew out of the exceptional trombone tradition that developed at the Rotterdam Conservatory in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Since 2001, the musicians have continued this tradition under the name New Trombone Collective, combining demanding international careers with a shared ambition: to push the boundaries of what the trombone can be.
The NTC works closely with composers and artists to create new music and unexpected collaborations. Over the years, this has resulted in premieres, recordings, educational projects and international performances. The collective has received awards including the Elly Ameling Prize and the ITA Award.
A central part of the NTC’s mission is to inspire the next generation. Through Slide Factory, masterclasses, workshops and the Young Trombone Collective, professional musicians, students and amateurs meet, play and learn together. The NTC believes that the strength of the trombone lies not only in individual virtuosity, but in the energy created when musicians listen to and challenge one another.
The New Trombone Collective is not a traditional trombone ensemble. It is a laboratory for sound, a meeting place for musicians and composers, and a platform for new ideas.

Foundation Nieuw Trombone Collectief is recognised as a Dutch Public Benefit Organisation (ANBI).
The purpose of the Foundation is:
To further the development and recognition of the trombone in chamber music and to develop the trombone as a fully recognised solo and chamber music instrument.

The board members perform their duties entirely on an unpaid basis.
People carrying out tasks on behalf of the Foundation are engaged on a project basis and receive an appropriate fee for each assignment.
There are no employees working for the Foundation.
Balance, Profit and Loss Statement 2021 - 2024
In the period 2023–2024, the main objective was to organise the Slide Factory festival in June 2024 and to produce related media resources, including streams and DVDs.
Through the organisation of this festival, the Foundation aims to:
Bring the trombone broadly to the attention of the public and contribute to the development of the trombone as a solo and chamber music instrument by organising a festival where national and international trombonists of all levels and music lovers perform concerts, meet one another, listen to one another and learn from each other.

To involve professional trombonists, students and amateurs from the Netherlands and abroad, both again and on a larger scale. To make Rotterdam ‘feel’ that the city has a strong connection with trombone music and that this music is attractive to many people.
Through partnerships, special outdoor presentations and an active marketing policy, the Foundation aims to expand and broaden its audience reach. Target: 10,000 people.
In this way, the Foundation contributes to a rich and varied musical life with many practitioners and a large and engaged audience.
On 12 September 2026, the New Trombone Collective will be present at Adams Ittervoort for a special trombone workshop.
American composer Michael Gordon is currently composing a new work especially for the New Trombone Collective. Gordon is one of the leading composers of his generation, with his music performed worldwide by renowned musicians and ensembles.
The new work, Resonance, is a special collaboration between Michael Gordon and the New Trombone Collective, bringing together Gordon’s distinctive musical language and the unique sound of nine trombones.
The world premiere will take place on 27 March 2027 at 20:15 at the Nieuwe Kerk in The Hague, as part of the programme of Amare.
