TROMBONE WORKSHOP AT ADAMS ITTERVOORT
On 12 September 2026, the New Trombone Collective will be present at Adams Ittervoort for a special trombone workshop.
Nine trombones. One sound.
The New Trombone Collective consists of nine Dutch trombonists, each with their own background, playing style and musical practice. Together, they form an ensemble in which the trombone and all its possibilities take centre stage.
The New Trombone Collective grew out of the strong trombone tradition at the Rotterdam Conservatory. George Wiegel’s trombone class brought together a new generation of young trombonists. Ben van Dijk, Bart van Lier and Michel Becquet also played an important role in their musical development.
In the early 1990s, they began studying and playing together in various ensembles. Over time, they developed a close musical bond and a shared enjoyment of making music together. After completing their studies, they each went their own way in the professional music world. But they missed playing together and got back in touch. This eventually led to the formation of the New Trombone Collective, which has been working under that name since 2001.
From the beginning, the New Trombone Collective was active on the concert stage. The NTC performed in the Netherlands and abroad, including appearances at the International Trombone Festival (ITF) in Helsinki, New Orleans and Valencia.
The New Trombone Collective also performed and gave masterclasses in Spain and Belgium. In Galicia and Betera, Spain, members of the NTC gave masterclasses. In France, the New Trombone Collective performed several times at the Lille Trombone Festival.
Over the years, the NTC has made several CD recordings and audiovisual productions.
One example is the CD box New Trombone Collective, a trilogy consisting of the CDs NEW, TROMBONE and COLLECTIVE.

In 2021, the NTC worked with filmmaker Evert Josemanders on 2021 Tracks, an online audiovisual project bringing music and film together.
Another special recording project was 21 Trombones in the 21st Century from 2010, a project centred on the legendary American trombonist Urbie Green. For this project, the NTC organised a concert featuring the twenty trombonists of New Trombone Collective & Friends, together with four prominent soloists: Jiggs Whigham, Bart van Lier, Mark Nightingale and Nils Wogram.
The project resulted in a special CD-DVD production featuring concert recordings, a documentary, interviews and additional material.

With Slide Factory, the New Trombone Collective has put an important international trombone festival on the map. The festival brings together trombonists, musicians and audiences from the Netherlands and abroad and offers a wide-ranging programme of concerts, new music, masterclasses, workshops and other activities.
The first edition of Slide Factory took place in 2005. Further editions followed in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019. The ninth edition took place in 2024.
The Young Trombone Collective (YTC) is the young talent ensemble of the New Trombone Collective. The YTC consists of young Dutch trombonists aged approximately 12 to 18, who work with members of the NTC on their musical development and their skills as ensemble musicians.
The YTC made its debut at Slide Factory in 2009. Since then, the young trombonists have performed at events including the Gergiev Festival and the final of the Prinses Christina Concours. In 2022, the YTC won first prize at the Gelre Chamber Music Competition.
Many former members of the YTC continued their musical education at conservatoires and went on to become professional musicians.
Members of the New Trombone Collective give masterclasses and workshops in the Netherlands and abroad. They share the knowledge and experience they have gained in professional music.
The New Trombone Collective has received several awards, including the Elly Ameling Prize, the ITA Award and the Amstel Music Award.

Stichting Nieuw Trombone Collectief is a Public Benefit Organisation (ANBI).
The foundation aims to further the position of the trombone in chamber music and to develop the trombone as a fully-fledged solo and chamber music instrument.

People who carry out tasks on behalf of the foundation are engaged on a project basis. An appropriate fee is agreed for each project.
The foundation has no employees.
Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss Statement 2021–2024
In the period 2023–2024, the main objective was to organise the Slide Factory festival in June 2024 and to produce media materials, such as streams and DVDs, alongside the festival.
Through the organisation of this festival, the foundation aims to bring the trombone to the attention of a broad audience and contribute to the development of the trombone as a solo and chamber music instrument. The festival brings together national and international trombonists of all levels and music enthusiasts to perform, meet one another, listen to one another and learn from each other.
To strengthen and expand the involvement of professional trombonists, students and amateurs from the Netherlands and abroad. To make people in Rotterdam feel that the city has a strong connection with trombone music, and that the music appeals to many people.
To broaden and expand the audience through partnerships, special (outdoor) presentations and an active marketing policy. Target: 10,000 people.
In this way, the foundation contributes to a rich and varied musical life with many active participants and a large and engaged audience.

American composer Michael Gordon is currently composing a new work especially for the New Trombone Collective. Gordon is one of the leading composers of his generation, with his music performed worldwide by renowned musicians and ensembles.
The new work, Resonance, is a special collaboration between Michael Gordon and the New Trombone Collective, bringing together Gordon’s distinctive musical language and the unique sound of nine trombones.
The world premiere will take place on 27 March 2027 at 20:15 at the Nieuwe Kerk in The Hague, as part of the programme of Amare.
